Mumbai, July 2:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recorded statements from six people, including journalists and office-bearers of the Mumbai Press Club, as part of its probe into a meeting that has become a key issue in the Elgaar Parishad case.

The agency questioned three journalists and three members of the Press Club management about a gathering held in January. Investigators reportedly sought information on who organised the event, who attended it, and the nature of the discussions.

The NIA has cited the meeting in its plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to some of the accused in the Elgaar Parishad case. According to the agency, the gathering may have violated bail conditions that restrict interaction among certain co-accused.

Lawyers representing the accused have denied any wrongdoing, stating that the event was a public discussion focused on issues related to prison conditions and the health of inmates. They have argued that no bail conditions were breached.

The matter is expected to come up for hearing before the Bombay High Court in the coming days.
