Kolkata, May 5, 2026:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made a strong statement refusing to step down following her party’s defeat in the recently concluded Bengal elections, triggering fresh political debate across the state.

Addressing reporters, Mamata Banerjee firmly rejected all speculation about her resignation and said she will continue to serve as Chief Minister. She also made it clear that she would not visit Raj Bhavan, Kolkata to submit any resignation letter.

“There is no question of my resignation,” she said, asserting that the mandate and current political situation do not warrant her stepping down. Her remarks came amid growing pressure from opposition parties demanding accountability after the electoral loss.

Political observers say her refusal signals that she intends to retain control of the administration and rebuild her party’s position ahead of future political battles in the state. The statement has already intensified tensions between ruling and opposition camps.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders have criticized her stance, calling it undemocratic, while Trinamool Congress supporters have backed her decision, claiming she remains the rightful leader to guide the state through a challenging political phase.
