New Delhi: A key leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Asaduddin Owaisi, Syed Asim Walker, has shocked many by joining the Congress party on Wednesday. Walker, who served as the national spokesperson for AIMIM, has made severe criticisms of the party, making his switch to Congress a topic of discussion in political circles.
At an event held at the Congress office in New Delhi, Walker was welcomed into the party by Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, UP Congress President Ajay Rai, and AICC Minority Department Chairman Imran Pratapgarhi.
‘Just saying we will defeat BJP... no real struggle’
After joining Congress, Asim Walker made serious allegations against AIMIM. He claimed that while AIMIM repeatedly called for the removal of the BJP, it failed to engage in an effective grassroots struggle against the party.
Walker criticized his experience in AIMIM, stating that the party limited its efforts to mere words regarding defeating the BJP. He also mentioned that it primarily fought alongside other political forces opposed to the BJP, including Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP).
Call for a united struggle against BJP
Walker emphasized the need for forces wishing to remove the BJP from power and establish a secular, people-centered government to come together. He noted that a stronger political struggle against the BJP is necessary.
Key development ahead of UP elections
Walker’s joining Congress is significant as it comes ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled for next year. Political analysts view the move as a setback for AIMIM, especially as the party attempts to expand its political influence in the state while losing its national representative to Congress.
