Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has triggered a fresh political row with sharp remarks targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her statement that she will not resign following the recent electoral setback.
Reacting to Mamata Banerjee’s assertion that she does not accept defeat and will not step down from her post, Himanta Biswa Sarma said there is “only one option left” in such a situation—dismissal. “If she is not ready to resign, then the only constitutional course left is to dismiss her,” Sarma reportedly said in an interview, escalating the political confrontation between the two leaders.
He further alleged that the people had “endured her governance for a long time,” intensifying his criticism of the West Bengal administration.
The remarks have added fuel to the already heated political atmosphere, with both national and regional parties closely watching the developments.
