Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has criticised the Uttar Pradesh government after a viral video allegedly showed police stopping a child carrying a red scarf linked to the Samajwadi Party.
Reacting strongly to the incident, Yadav questioned whether people would now face action simply for wearing or carrying the party’s symbolic red scarf. In a sharp political jab at the BJP government, he asked whether the administration’s priority was “village development or targeting political opponents.”
The video quickly sparked political reactions across the state, with opposition voices accusing the government of intolerance and using police machinery to suppress dissent. Critics said the episode reflects growing concerns over freedom of political expression in Uttar Pradesh.
The controversy has added fresh tension to the ongoing political rivalry between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP, with both sides expected to intensify attacks in the coming days.
