West Bengal Former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has intensified her attack on the BJP, alleging that leaders switching sides suddenly emerge with a "clean image" after joining the saffron party.
Taking aim at political defections, Banerjee remarked that several leaders facing allegations or investigations appear to receive a fresh start once they enter the BJP, describing the party as a "political washing machine."
The TMC leader claimed that opposition figures are often targeted while they remain outside the BJP, but the pressure eases once they cross over to the ruling party. Her comments come amid continuing political realignments and defections in several states.
The BJP has repeatedly rejected such allegations, maintaining that leaders join the party based on ideology and public support rather than political convenience. The exchange is expected to add more heat to the ongoing political battle between the BJP and opposition parties ahead of upcoming elections.
