Hyderabad, April 10, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to expedite repair works on the three barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and bring them back into full use at the earliest. During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that the restoration works must be carried out in line with the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA). He instructed officials to accelerate all pending works and ensure strict monitoring through a dedicated action plan.

Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with senior officials, participated in the review. The Chief Minister directed all concerned agencies to remain on high alert and speed up execution. He also stressed that ongoing testing and sample collection under the supervision of the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) should be completed before the onset of the monsoon.

A coordinated team involving the Irrigation Department, CWPRS, barrage construction agencies, and design consultants will be set up. The CM instructed that members from the Central Water Commission (CWC) should be part of every stage of the works. Officials informed that, apart from the damaged piers at Medigadda, a comprehensive study of the entire 1.6-kilometre barrage is necessary. The Chief Minister also ordered the preparation of a special action plan to drill 500 borewells near Medigadda, ensuring the availability of required machinery and timely completion.

Further, he directed officials to finalize repair designs and prepare a detailed schedule of works to be completed by December. Making it clear that there would be no delays, the CM assured that funds would not be a constraint. He also suggested setting up a base camp at Medigadda and stated that he would personally inspect the progress once the works commence.

Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and senior irrigation department officials were also present at the meeting.
