Chennai, Tamil Nadu | May 9, 2026 In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, Thol Thirumavalavan announced that the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has decided to extend unconditional support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government.

Addressing the media in Chennai, Thirumavalavan said the decision was taken after extensive consultations with the Left parties, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India, keeping in mind the current political crisis and long-term political considerations in the state.

According to the VCK chief, the Left parties first discussed the issue internally through their respective state committees. After both CPI(M) and CPI formally decided to support TVK, they communicated their decision to VCK leadership through official letters.

These letters were then placed before the VCK’s high-level committee during an online consultation meeting. Following detailed discussions, the committee unanimously authorized Thirumavalavan to take the final call on behalf of the party.

With the present political situation in mind, and after careful consultations with our allies, we have decided to support TVK unconditionally,” Thirumavalavan stated, signaling a major shift in Tamil Nadu’s opposition politics

. The decision is expected to strengthen TVK’s political position and could significantly alter the state’s evolving political landscape, as regional and Left parties rally behind actor-turned-politician Vijay ahead of a potentially transformative phase in Tamil Nadu politics.
