As part of World Environment Day 2026 celebrations, the South Central Railway launched a three-week environmental awareness campaign on Thursday at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. The programme is being conducted under the theme, “Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth.” SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava administered the Environmental Pledge and led a signature campaign during the curtain raiser event. Senior officials, Railway Protection Force personnel and staff members participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment towards environmental protection. Following the directions of the Railway Board, the campaign will be observed from May 15 to June 5 across railway divisions, stations, colonies, workshops, field units and administrative offices under SCR. As part of the initiative, Indian Railways will also undertake awareness and outreach activities under Mission LiFE to encourage eco-friendly behavioural changes among the public.
Speaking on the occasion, the General Manager stated that the environmental pledge is not merely symbolic, but a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect nature through sustainable practices. He said special focus this year will be on climate change awareness, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” clean air, green spaces, scientific waste management including e-waste disposal, and achieving Net Zero Emissions in Railways. Earlier, Chief Environment and Housekeeping Management officer Vinod Kumar highlighted the initiatives taken by SCR in areas such as afforestation, elimination of single-use plastics, waste management, water and energy conservation, and promotion of renewable energy to reduce environmental impact.
