Geneva / Tehran, March 27

In a sharp escalation of rhetoric on the global stage, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, representing Iran, strongly condemned the United States and Israel during a high-level debate at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Addressing the 49th meeting of the 61st session,

Araghchi described the ongoing conflict as a “blatantly unjustified war of aggression,” alleging that both the US and Israel initiated hostilities on February 28. His remarks came during an urgent debate focused on the protection of children and educational institutions in conflict zones. The Iranian Foreign Minister specifically accused the two nations of committing a “war crime” by targeting an elementary school in Minab. Referring to the alleged strike on Shajarah Tayyebeh school, he asserted that the attack was neither accidental nor a miscalculation, but a deliberate act requiring “unequivocal condemnation by all.” Araghchi emphasized that attacks on schools and children represent grave violations of international law and undermine global commitments to safeguard civilian lives during armed conflicts. He urged the international community to take a firm stand and hold those responsible accountable. The remarks are expected to intensify geopolitical tensions, as the United States and Israel have not officially responded to these specific allegations at the time of reporting. The debate at the Human Rights Council continues amid growing concerns over civilian safety and the protection of critical infrastructure in conflict zones.
