In a strong diplomatic signal, China has reiterated its support for Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining peace while safeguarding its strategic interests. Speaking on Sunday, China’s Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun said Beijing is closely monitoring developments in the region, particularly around the critical Strait of Hormuz.

Dong Jun stated that Chinese vessels continue to move freely through the Strait of Hormuz, underlining the importance of the waterway for global trade and energy supplies. He highlighted China’s longstanding trade and energy agreements with Iran, making it clear that Beijing intends to honor these commitments despite escalating geopolitical tensions.

In a pointed message to the international community, China warned against external interference in its bilateral relations. “We expect others to not meddle in our affairs,” Dong said, signaling Beijing’s growing assertiveness in protecting its economic and strategic partnerships in the region.

The statement comes at a time when the Strait of Hormuz—through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes—has become a focal point of global concern. China’s remarks appear to back Iran’s control over the passage, reinforcing Tehran’s position amid ongoing disputes with Western powers.

Analysts say China’s stance reflects its broader strategy of securing energy routes while positioning itself as a stabilizing force in global conflicts. However, the declaration may further complicate an already volatile situation, as competing powers continue to stake claims over one of the world’s most crucial maritime corridors.
