The United States has cautioned Iran against any attempt to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such a move would lead to a strong military reaction from Washington.
Speaking during growing tensions in the Gulf region, JD Vance stated that any effort by Iran to shut down the strategically important Strait of Hormuz would not go unanswered by the American military.
The waterway is one of the world's busiest energy corridors, carrying a major portion of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports every day. Analysts warn that any interruption to maritime traffic in the region could push up energy prices and create disruptions in international trade.
Tehran has previously raised the possibility of restricting access to the strait during periods of confrontation with the United States and its allies. Washington, however, has consistently maintained that it will protect international shipping routes and ensure free navigation through the Gulf.
The latest remarks come amid renewed geopolitical tensions in the region, with global markets closely watching developments around one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.
