Beijing, May 14
: Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed the global significance of China-U.S. relations, saying the relationship affects not only the 1.7 billion people of the two nations but also the broader interests of more than 8 billion people worldwide.
In remarks released by Chinese state media, Xi said both Beijing and Washington carry a historic responsibility to maintain stability and guide bilateral relations in the right direction. He described the relationship as a “giant ship” that must be steered steadily despite growing geopolitical tensions and economic competition.
Xi emphasized that cooperation between the world’s two largest economies is essential for global peace, trade, and prosperity. He said China and the United States should focus on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation rather than confrontation.
The comments come amid efforts by both countries to stabilize ties after years of disputes over trade, technology, Taiwan, and security issues in the Indo-Pacific. Analysts say improved communication between Beijing and Washington is critical to reducing strategic risks and restoring investor confidence.
Xi’s message signals China’s continued push for a more predictable relationship with the United States, warning that the direction of China-U.S. ties will have far-reaching consequences for the global economy and international stability
