Washington / Beijing: The White House has released new details from the recent bilateral sit-down between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, outlining what officials are calling a series of major diplomatic and economic understandings between the two global powers
. According to the statement, one of the key highlights is a renewed push by Washington to curb the flow of fentanyl precursor chemicals from China into the United States, a long-standing point of tension between the two countries. The U.S. side also reportedly pressed for stronger cooperation on public health and enforcement mechanisms to disrupt illicit drug supply chains
. On the energy front, the discussions included an effort to encourage China to increase imports of American oil and reduce dependence on Iranian supplies routed through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping corridor. Officials also noted interest in expanding Chinese purchases of U.S. agricultural products as part of broader trade balancing measures.
The White House briefing further stated that both sides expressed concern over regional instability, including reported opposition to any Iranian attempts to impose tolls in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement also claimed a shared understanding that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons
. In addition, both sides reportedly discussed reducing military tensions in sensitive maritime zones, including a mutual interest in preventing further militarization of key global shipping routes. However, officials have not released a detailed joint communiqué, and independent confirmation of the full scope of the agreements remains limited.
