Chennai, June 1: Speculation over the political future of K. Annamalai intensified on Monday after reports suggested that the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief is likely to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and may launch a new political movement in the state.

According to multiple media reports, Annamalai is expected to meet senior BJP leaders in Delhi before making a final announcement. Sources claim the former IPS officer-turned-politician feels his role within the party has diminished following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and the subsequent leadership changes in the state unit.

When questioned by reporters at Chennai airport, Annamalai declined to directly address the speculation and said, “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days,” further fueling discussions about his next political move.

Reports indicate that Annamalai may initially launch a people-centric movement that could later evolve into a full-fledged political party. Supporters have reportedly put up posters across parts of Tamil Nadu, signaling growing anticipation over his future plans

Annamalai, who emerged as one of the BJP’s most prominent faces in Tamil Nadu, was replaced as the state party president last year. His recent statements on regional issues and differences over certain policy matters had already sparked speculation about his relationship with the party leadership

While no official resignation has been announced so far, political observers believe any move by Annamalai could reshape the opposition landscape in Tamil Nadu ahead of upcoming electoral battles
