Meenakshi Natarajan Moves Supreme Court After Rajya Sabha Nomination Rejected Over Hyderabad Case

Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan has moved the Supreme Court after her Rajya Sabha nomination was rejected over an alleged non-disclosure linked to a Hyderabad court complaint

New Delhi, June 12:

Senior Congress leader and AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan has approached the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of her Rajya Sabha nomination from Madhya Pradesh. The nomination was rejected after election authorities cited the alleged non-disclosure of a pending case linked to a private complaint filed in Hyderabad.

The controversy stems from a complaint lodged in September 2025 by A. Srilatha, a former municipal corporator from Tarnaka in Hyderabad and a Congress worker. In her petition before a court in Nampally, Srilatha accused several Congress leaders, including Natarajan, of failing to act on repeated complaints against Congress leader Kumbham Shiva Kumar Reddy. She alleged that despite informing party leaders about threats and harassment, no effective disciplinary action was taken.

Srilatha's complaint named multiple Congress functionaries, including Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and other senior leaders. The dispute reportedly traces its roots to political differences during the 2020 Narayanpet municipal elections. Over the years, Srilatha filed several complaints against Shiva Kumar Reddy, alleging intimidation and misconduct, though earlier police cases reportedly did not result in prosecution.

The issue gained national attention after the Election Commission rejected Natarajan's Rajya Sabha nomination, citing the pending proceedings. Congress leaders argue that the matter is not a criminal case requiring disclosure in election papers and have described the rejection as politically motivated. Natarajan has denied any wrongdoing and termed the decision an attempt to influence the Rajya Sabha election process.

The development has triggered a political storm, with Congress leaders rallying behind Natarajan while opposition leaders have questioned why the case was not disclosed. Senior BJP leader B. L. Santhosh also weighed in, raising questions about how details of the Hyderabad case entered the public domain.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear Natarajan's plea urgently, with the outcome likely to have implications for the ongoing Rajya Sabha election process and the broader debate over disclosure requirements in electoral nominations.
