Even after securing power in Telangana, many Congress leaders appear to have forgotten why the people entrusted the party with the mandate in the first place. Instead of staying among the people, resolving public grievances, and strengthening the party at the grassroots level, several leaders are increasingly becoming entangled in internal power struggles and factional politics.
Party leaders who are expected to counter opposition criticism and defend the government's policies are allegedly adopting a hands-off approach, leaving everything to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Rather than taking on political rivals, many leaders are engaged in battles for supremacy within the party itself, raising concerns among party cadres and political observers.
The situation in several districts has become a matter of concern. In Warangal district, a minister has reportedly become the center of controversy, with allegations that instead of resolving disputes among party workers, the minister himself has become part of the problem by violating party discipline. In Nalgonda district, traditionally considered a Congress stronghold, infighting among leaders has become increasingly visible. An MLA from Tungaturthi constituency has repeatedly found himself in controversies, creating discomfort within party circles.
The political atmosphere in the erstwhile Nizamabad district is said to be even worse, with senior leaders openly clashing with one another. Observers believe the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leadership has struggled to effectively intervene in these disputes. There is also growing perception that AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan has found it difficult to bring the situation under control. Many within the party believe that only direct intervention by the Chief Minister can restore order and unity.
Meanwhile, the Congress organization in districts such as Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Medak is still considered weak and far from fully consolidated. Statements made by some MLAs from Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts have also reportedly embarrassed the party, with critics questioning whether they are speaking as Congress representatives or as members of the opposition.
Recently, during the Chief Minister's visit to Nalgonda district, a local party leader allegedly attacked members of the Chief Minister's security team during a public meeting, triggering fresh concerns over discipline within the party. Critics say the state leadership has failed to take adequate notice of such incidents.
In Hyderabad, party leaders are accused of limiting themselves to public appearances and photo opportunities while neglecting organizational work. Despite the possibility of elections to three civic corporations in and around Hyderabad in the near future, the party is reportedly yet to identify and mobilize workers effectively even at the booth level.
Political circles believe that Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is closely monitoring the developments in Telangana and is receiving regular updates on the party's internal situation. Many believe that unless the leadership addresses factionalism and restores discipline, the party could face significant challenges in future electoral battles despite currently being in power.
