A social media post by RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti has ignited a fresh political debate over the educational credentials of India's political leaders and the public perception surrounding them.
In a post shared on X, Bharti wrote, “I live in a country where a leader educated at Harvard University is called ‘Pappu’, while a person who failed Class 4 is called ‘Vishwaguru’.” Although the post did not directly mention any names, political observers and social media users interpreted the remarks as referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The post quickly gained traction online, triggering intense reactions across political circles and social media platforms. Supporters of the BJP criticised the comments as disrespectful and politically motivated, arguing that leadership should be judged by governance and public service rather than academic qualifications.
Opposition supporters, however, defended the remarks as a form of political criticism aimed at highlighting what they described as contrasting public narratives surrounding political leaders in India. As of the time of publication, the BJP had not issued an official response to Bharti's comments, while the debate continued to trend across social media platforms.
