Bengaluru: A major political storm has erupted in Karnataka after senior Congress leader and Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy resigned from the state cabinet, alleging that promises made to him were not honored. Reddy said he was assured the Bengaluru Development portfolio but was instead assigned the Water Resources department, prompting him to step down from the ministerial post.
Addressing the media in Bengaluru, Reddy said he could not work against his conscience and therefore chose to resign. He clarified that he is not quitting the Congress party and will continue to serve as an MLA. The veteran leader also expressed frustration over what he described as repeated humiliation and a breach of assurances given during cabinet formation.
The resignation comes just days after the formation of the new cabinet under Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar. Political observers view the move as a significant setback for the Congress government, exposing growing dissatisfaction and internal power struggles over key portfolios.
While the Congress leadership has attempted to downplay the crisis, the sudden exit of a senior leader has provided fresh ammunition to the opposition, which claims the development reflects deep divisions within the ruling party.
