Bhadrachalam/Hyderabad, June 14:
Panic gripped residents of Bhadrachalam, Kothagudem and several bordering areas of Chhattisgarh after earthquake tremors were felt on Sunday. People in residential colonies, commercial establishments and government offices reported feeling the ground shake for a few seconds, prompting many to rush outdoors as a precaution.
According to preliminary information, the tremors were experienced across parts of Bhadradri Kothagudem district and neighboring regions of Chhattisgarh. Residents described vibrations in buildings, rattling windows and swaying ceiling fans. The tremors were brief but strong enough to be noticed across a wide area.
District authorities and disaster management officials immediately began monitoring the situation. Initial assessments indicated that there were no reports of casualties or significant damage to houses, roads, public infrastructure or industrial units. Officials urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
Seismologists noted that the Godavari Valley region has witnessed occasional seismic activity in the past. Experts said minor earthquakes are not uncommon in the region, though most are too weak to cause major damage. Authorities are awaiting detailed data on the earthquake's magnitude, depth and exact epicenter.
Local administration teams have been placed on alert, particularly in vulnerable tribal and forest areas along the Telangana–Chhattisgarh border. Emergency response personnel are conducting field inspections to ensure public safety and assess any potential impact.
Meanwhile, residents shared their experiences online, with many saying they had never felt such tremors before. Officials have advised people to follow safety guidelines during aftershocks and rely only on updates issued by authorized agencies.
