Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh | May 20, 2026
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a strong criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic policies while addressing party workers at a Congress meeting in Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that the Centre’s decisions were benefiting a select few while placing increasing pressure on farmers, youth, small traders and middle-class families.
Speaking in Raebareli, Gandhi said rising inflation, unemployment and repeated fuel price hikes were creating serious concerns for ordinary citizens. He warned that the economic burden on households was growing and claimed the government had failed to provide meaningful relief.
Rahul Gandhi also accused the BJP-led government of ignoring the struggles of small businesses and job seekers. He said policies introduced over the past several years had weakened local industries and reduced employment opportunities, especially for young people.
Calling on Congress workers to take the message to the grassroots, Gandhi urged them to connect with people affected by price rises and economic uncertainty. He said the Congress would continue raising issues related to livelihoods, social justice and economic equality.
The BJP has dismissed such criticism, maintaining that the government’s economic agenda is focused on development, welfare and long-term growth.
Gandhi’s remarks are expected to intensify the political debate over inflation and jobs as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
