Advocate Prashant Bhushan raises concerns over Bengal polling data, cites Scroll report on booth-level anomaly

Concern rises after Prashant Bhushan cites a report claiming a Kaliganj booth in West Bengal saw 97% votes for BJP in a Muslim-majority area, alleging possible EVM irregularities.

New Delhi | A controversy has emerged over alleged irregularities in a West Bengal Assembly constituency after senior advocate Prashant Bhushan flagged a Scroll report claiming an unusual voting pattern in a Muslim-majority booth.

According to the report shared by Bhushan, one polling booth in the Kaliganj Assembly segment recorded around 97% of votes in favour of the BJP, despite the area being predominantly Muslim and traditionally non-BJP voting. Bhushan described the data as “clear evidence” that warrants scrutiny of the electoral process.

He suggested that the anomaly could point to possible EVM manipulation, replacement of machines, or discrepancies between recorded votes and officially declared results, calling for greater transparency and investigation.

The Scroll analysis cited by Bhushan highlights booth-wise voting data that appears inconsistent with expected demographic voting trends, prompting questions about how such a high percentage could be recorded for one party in that locality.

The claims have triggered renewed debate on social media and political circles over electoral integrity, EVM security, and counting procedures, with opposition voices demanding clarification from the Election Commission.

However, no official response or verification has yet been issued regarding the specific allegations raised from the report.

Bhushan’s remarks add to an ongoing national discussion around voting machine reliability and election transparency, an issue that has repeatedly surfaced during recent elections.
