⚡ Hyderabad's Mega Underground Power Plan Hits the Brakes!

Big setback for Hyderabad's power infrastructure upgrade as the ₹14,725 crore underground cabling project stalls amid funding concerns and policy delays.

Hyderabad News

The much-talked-about plan to move power lines underground across Hyderabad has hit a fresh delay, with the massive ₹14,725 crore project facing hurdles related to funding and implementation

. Government officials indicate that the state's immediate focus is now on establishing a third power distribution company (DISCOM), pushing the underground cabling initiative further down the queue.

Although the first phase of the project — valued at ₹4,051 crore — received approval last year, work is yet to begin in key areas including Banjara Hills, Secunderabad, Hyderabad Central and Hyderabad South circles.

The underground cabling project was expected to improve reliability, reduce outages during heavy rains and storms, and enhance the city's urban landscape by removing overhead power lines. For now, however, the ambitious plan remains on the waiting list.
