Hyderabad, August 4: The phone tapping case that has shaken Telangana has reached a crucial stage in the investigation. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is reportedly preparing to file a comprehensive charge sheet in court by August 15. This charge sheet, which is expected to be hundreds of pages long, may stand as one of the most extensive telephone surveillance cases in the country.
The SIT has recorded statements from approximately 600 witnesses so far and is said to have prepared a detailed charge sheet based on these testimonies. It is reported that the SIT has sought legal experts' opinions on whether to include the names of three political leaders in this case.
Additionally, it appears that the SIT is in the final stages of deciding whether to officially record the statement of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
According to the investigation, former SIB Chief Prabhakar Rao has been identified by the SIT as a key figure in this case. It has come to light that the team under his leadership illegally tapped the phones of political leaders, businessmen, film personalities, judges, journalists, and others.
The investigative agency has reportedly identified that large-scale phone tapping occurred both during the last general elections and prior to by-elections. The inquiry is also ongoing regarding the use of this surveillance system to gather information on electoral strategies and political movements.
The SIT is preparing to include provisions of the Telegraph Act in the charge sheet for this case. If implemented, the use of the Telegraph Act in such a manner would be a rare development in the history of the country.
Authorities believe that there are chances of more sensational revelations coming to light after the SIT files the charge sheet in this case.
