Revenue officials on Wednesday sealed a girls’ care centre in Nagole, reportedly being run by Vatsalyam Voluntary Organisation without the mandatory approvals and registration.
The action was taken on the directions of Medchal-Malkajgiri District Collector and District Magistrate Mikkilineni Manu Chowdary, with officials also taking custody of relevant records. A District Child Protection Unit inspection reportedly found that the centre was operating without compulsory registration under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The inspection found 16 orphaned girls from economically weaker families in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at the facility. The official report also alleged that the organisation’s founder, Raghavendra, had declined to comply with statutory requirements and behaved inappropriately with officials.
Previous cases under the Juvenile Justice Act had also reportedly been registered at Nagole Police Station. Following the Collector’s orders, revenue officials, assisted by police personnel, sealed the premises. Uppal MRO Pool Singh Chauhan, Deputy Tahsildar B. Sripal, RIs M. Ashwini Goud and A. Veerendra Sai, Junior Assistant P. Venkanna and other officials were present.
