A major political controversy has erupted after Uttar Pradesh BJP leader and Sikandrabad Nagar Palika chairman Dr. Pradeep Dixit allegedly announced a ₹1 crore reward for anyone who “beheads” Trinamool Congress MP Saayoni Ghosh.
The shocking remark was reportedly made during a protest in Uttar Pradesh over an old social media post linked to Ghosh that had previously sparked controversy. In a video widely circulated on social media, Dixit is heard saying that whoever brings Ghosh’s severed head would be rewarded with ₹1 crore.
The statement has drawn fierce criticism from opposition parties, civil society groups, and social media users, who condemned the use of violent rhetoric against an elected woman representative. Leaders from the Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of encouraging a dangerous political culture rooted in threats and intimidation.
Responding to the outrage, local BJP leaders attempted to distance the party from Dixit’s comments, stating that his remarks were personal and did not reflect the party’s official stand.
Saayoni Ghosh, a prominent TMC leader and actor-turned-politician, has previously faced criticism over a controversial post related to Lord Shiva, though she had maintained that her social media account was hacked at the time.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of police action, though opposition leaders are demanding that an FIR be registered immediately against Dixit for inciting violence.
The incident has once again ignited debate over hate speech and the increasing use of inflammatory language in India’s political discourse
