New Delhi: Priyanka Kakkar, a spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party, has raised questions over India’s economic performance, alleging that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures are being presented in an inflated manner.
She claimed that if the methodology for calculating GDP had not been revised in 2015, India’s growth rate would appear 2 to 2.5 percent lower than current official estimates. According to her, the revised statistical approach has significantly altered how economic output is measured.
Kakkar further alleged that despite what she described as attempts to “manipulate numbers,” the ground reality of the economy is becoming increasingly visible to the public. She did not provide detailed data to support her claim but insisted that the issue needs greater transparency and public discussion.
The remarks have sparked political attention, though the Bharatiya Janata Party has not issued an official response to the allegations at the time of reporting. The debate comes amid ongoing political sparring over economic indicators and growth narratives in the country.
