The South Central Railway (SCR) has set a new record by achieving the highest freight loading in its history. As of March 24, 2026, in the current financial year 2025-26, it has successfully transported a total of 144.244 million tons of freight, demonstrating exceptional performance.
It is noteworthy that this achievement comes with a week remaining before the end of the financial year. The SCR has surpassed the previous best loading of 144.14 million tons recorded in the last financial year 2024-25. The Singareni coal mines and cement factories within the SCR zone have significantly contributed to the growth of freight transportation. By maintaining a strong level in coal and cement transportation, the zone has also expanded its revenue sources by introducing new types of goods into the transportation system.
The main freight transportation details are as follows: Coal – 66.878 million tons, Cement – 37.572 million tons, Iron Ore – 8.620 million tons, Fertilizers – 8.038 million tons, Raw Materials for Steel Plants – 4.810 million tons, Food Grains – 6.225 million tons, Containers – 2.561 million tons, Petroleum Products – 1.223 million tons, Other Items – 8.349 million tons.
Officials from the South Central Railway stated that this record was made possible due to the collective efforts of the staff and effective coordination among departments. Special attention has been given to improving infrastructure facilities, enhancing the working environment at terminals, and expanding goods sheds to attract freight customers. Additionally, officials revealed that they are continuously engaging in consultations to address customer needs in a timely manner. Identifying new goods alongside traditional ones and focusing on port loading have also been crucial in achieving this record.
