Hyderabad, March 27: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the state government has set up a high-level committee under the Chief Secretary to continuously monitor the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG across the state. During a video conference chaired by the Prime Minister with Chief Ministers of all states in view of rising tensions in West Asia, the Chief Minister briefed the Centre on the preparedness and current situation in Telangana. He stated that from the Command Control Center in Hyderabad, the committee led by the Chief Secretary is reviewing the situation round-the-clock. Additionally, district-level committees have been formed in all 33 districts with nodal officers appointed to oversee fuel distribution, prevent black marketing, and ensure smooth supply. The Chief Minister highlighted that priority is being given to essential institutions such as hospitals, schools, orphanages, and old-age homes for the supply of commercial LPG cylinders. Officials are also closely tracking stock levels and daily consumption at petrol pumps. Under normal circumstances, Telangana consumes around 36,189 kilolitres of petrol and diesel per day. At present, the state has reserves of approximately 1,88,210 kilolitres, which is considered sufficient. He also informed the Prime Minister that strict legal action is being taken against those spreading misinformation and panic on social media regarding fuel shortages. On long-term strategy, the Chief Minister emphasized Telangana’s efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas by promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy. The state has announced 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for EVs, while also encouraging EV manufacturing and battery ecosystem development. He further revealed plans to convert over 1.2 lakh petrol and diesel autos in Hyderabad into electric vehicles through retrofitting and stated that all future additions to the RTC fleet will be electric buses. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and Principal Secretary Sheshadri, were also present during the meeting.
