Senior Congress leader Leader of opposition  Rahul Gandhi created a wave of enthusiasm in Kerala’s Kottayam district after he joined a bicycle rally as part of his ongoing election campaign. The unexpected move came during his outreach in the politically significant Puthuppally constituency, where he was campaigning for United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Chandy Oommen. Riding alongside party workers and supporters, Rahul Gandhi covered a short stretch on bicycle, turning an otherwise routine campaign visit into a high-visibility public interaction.

The gesture quickly drew attention, with locals gathering along the roadsides to witness the moment. Party cadres described the act as a reflection of a “ground-level campaign approach” aimed at directly connecting with voters. The bicycle, already being used as a campaign symbol by Chandy Oommen, gained further prominence with Rahul Gandhi’s participation. Political observers note that such visual messaging plays a crucial role in Kerala’s highly competitive electoral landscape, where personal outreach and symbolism often influence voter perception. Apart from the roadshow, Rahul Gandhi addressed public meetings in the region, highlighting issues such as unemployment, welfare measures, and governance.

He also emphasized the need for inclusive leadership, reiterating his party’s commitment to social justice and development. The visit is seen as part of the Congress party’s broader strategy to energize its base and strengthen its presence in central Kerala. With elections drawing closer, both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition UDF have intensified their campaigns across the state. Rahul Gandhi’s bicycle ride, though brief, has added a fresh dimension to the campaign narrative—blending symbolism with direct voter engagement in a state known for its politically aware electorate.
