West Bengal has plunged into fresh political chaos after violent post-election clashes erupted across several districts, leaving at least three people dead and triggering massive police action. Among those killed was an aide to a senior leader of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), intensifying the already explosive political atmosphere in the state.
The violence broke out shortly after election results were declared, with rival political workers allegedly engaging in brutal street battles, arson, vandalism, and targeted attacks. Several homes, party offices, and vehicles were reportedly torched as tension spiraled out of control in multiple regions. Panic gripped affected areas as residents claimed armed groups roamed the streets during the night.
Police launched a statewide crackdown and arrested hundreds of people linked to the clashes. Security forces have been deployed in sensitive districts to prevent further escalation, while intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities said raids are continuing and more arrests are expected in the coming days.
The BJP launched a fierce attack on the ruling establishment, accusing it of failing to protect opposition workers and allowing “political terror” to spread after the elections. Party leaders demanded immediate intervention from the Centre and called for strict action against those responsible for the killings and destruction.
The latest violence has once again raised serious concerns over West Bengal’s recurring pattern of post-poll unrest, where election victories are often followed by deadly revenge attacks and political bloodshed. With tensions still running high, the state remains on edge amid fears of more violence.
