Patna, May 7: A shocking case of alleged negligence has emerged from Bihar after nearly 300 schoolchildren reportedly fell sick due to suspected food poisoning caused by a snake found in a government school mid-day meal. The incident has triggered panic among parents and sparked massive outrage over the condition of school meal safety in the state.
According to local reports, children began complaining of vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, and nausea shortly after consuming the mid-day meal served at the school. Chaos erupted as several students collapsed inside classrooms, forcing authorities to rush them to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Eyewitnesses and villagers alleged that a dead snake was discovered in the food container after the meal had already been served to students. Angry parents and locals staged protests outside the school, accusing the administration of criminal negligence and demanding strict action against those responsible.
Doctors treating the children said many students showed clear symptoms of food poisoning, though most are currently stated to be out of danger. Health officials have collected food samples for testing while district authorities launched an inquiry into the shocking incident.
The incident has once again raised serious questions over the quality checks and hygiene standards in the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, a flagship welfare program meant to provide nutritious food to schoolchildren. Opposition leaders slammed the state government, calling the episode a “complete collapse of accountability” in the education and public health systems.
