New Delhi, May 11:
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the government’s repeated appeals to citizens to support local businesses and remain patient are a clear sign that India’s economy is under severe stress.
Rahul Gandhi said a strong economy does not require constant public appeals from the Prime Minister. According to him, when the government asks people to shoulder the burden of economic recovery, it reflects policy failures and an inability to generate jobs, control inflation, and boost consumer confidence.
The Congress leader accused the Modi government of creating an economic environment where small businesses are struggling, unemployment remains high, and household savings are under pressure. He argued that ordinary Indians are paying the price for what he called years of “mismanaged economic decision
Gandhi further said that despite government claims of rapid growth, the benefits are not reaching the common citizen. He alleged that rising prices, stagnant wages, and weak private investment show that the economy is not as robust as the government projects.
The remarks are part of Rahul Gandhi’s continuing offensive against the Centre on issues of unemployment, inflation, and inequality. The Congress has repeatedly questioned whether headline GDP figures reflect the realities faced by middle-class families, farmers, and youth.
The BJP has consistently defended the government’s economic record, pointing to strong infrastructure spending, digital expansion, and India’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. The exchange is likely to intensify as both parties gear up for upcoming political battles.
