Senior Congress leader V. D. Satheesan was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday, marking the return of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to power after a decade.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Satheesan at a grand ceremony held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Along with Satheesan, a 20-member Cabinet also took oath, representing Congress and its UDF allies
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge. Several chief ministers from Congress-ruled states and senior leaders from across the country were also present.
Thousands of UDF workers and supporters gathered at the venue to witness the historic event as the coalition returned to power after defeating the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front in the 2026 Assembly elections. Satheesan, a six-time MLA and former Leader of the Opposition, is widely credited with revitalising the Congress in Kerala and leading the party to a decisive electoral victory.
The new government is expected to focus on economic revival, employment generation, and strengthening welfare measures across the state.
