Kolkata, August 29: A fresh political and legal controversy has erupted in West Bengal after an FIR was registered against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in connection with the party's student wing rally in Kolkata.

The case relates to the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day programme held in the city on August 28. Police have alleged that certain conditions imposed by the Calcutta High Court regarding the rally were not followed.

According to the allegations, the organisers failed to maintain the required traffic arrangements during the gathering, resulting in disruption on roads around the venue. Police have also raised concerns over the rally allegedly continuing beyond the time permitted by the court.

The FIR reportedly names Mamata Banerjee along with organisers and other individuals associated with the event. Police have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged violation and the conduct of those involved.

The development has triggered another political confrontation in the state, with the ruling TMC and opposition parties likely to clash over the allegations and the legal action.

However, the allegations contained in the FIR are yet to be established by a court, and the investigation is continuing.
