The Telangana government has introduced a new rule under which traffic challans sent through WhatsApp, SMS, or email will be treated as officially served after a 30-day grace period. Vehicle owners will no longer be able to avoid penalties by claiming they did not see or receive the digital notice.
Officials have directed all vehicle owners to update their mobile numbers and email addresses on the VAHAN portal within 30 days. Authorities warned that outdated contact details will not be accepted as a reason for non-compliance.
The move is aimed at strengthening digital enforcement, improving challan recovery, and reducing disputes over notification delivery. Transport officials say the system will help ensure that traffic violation notices reach vehicle owners faster and more efficiently.
Citizens are advised to check their registered contact information and clear any pending challans to avoid further action.
