Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly has passed the Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Bill, 2026 (CURE Bill), with a key amendment limiting the maximum annual revision in property tax to 10%, instead of the earlier
proposed 20%. The amendment is aimed at preventing a steep rise in the property tax burden on residents across the core urban region. The legislation seeks to bring Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri under a coordinated urban governance framework.
The proposed capital-value-based property tax system had triggered concerns from opposition parties and some legislators, who warned that it could increase the financial burden on homeowners.
With the Assembly approving the 10% ceiling, the government has sought to balance revenue requirements with concerns over excessive property-tax increases.
The CURE Bill is part of the Telangana government’s broader plan to streamline governance and urban administration across the rapidly expanding Hyderabad metropolitan region.
