New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has launched a major nationwide crackdown on illegal narcotics, seizing nearly 740 kilograms of cannabis and charas during a series of operations conducted across the country over the last fortnight.

The sweeping action resulted in the arrest of 13 persons under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, dealing a major blow to suspected drug trafficking networks

According to the DRI, its operations led to the seizure of approximately 709 kg of cannabis, 24.5 kg of high-grade hydroponic cannabis and 5 kg of charas.

The seizure of hydroponic cannabis is particularly significant, as the high-value variety is increasingly associated with organised drug trafficking and illicit supply chains.

The latest operations underline the DRI's intensified focus on disrupting the movement of narcotic substances and dismantling networks involved in their procurement, transportation and distribution.

With nearly three-quarters of a tonne of narcotics seized within just two weeks, the enforcement action sends a strong warning to drug trafficking syndicates operating across the country.

Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the seized drugs, identify the wider network involved and trace their intended destinations.
