A special court in Nashik has granted bail to Nida Khan, one of the accused in a case involving allegations of religious conversion pressure at a TCS-linked BPO unit. The court noted that Khan is five months pregnant and observed that giving birth inside a prison could lead to emotional trauma and social stigma for both the mother and the child.
In its order issued on Thursday, Special Judge K.G. Joshi reportedly drew a comparison with the birth of Lord Krishna in prison, stating that no child should have to face the circumstances or social burden associated with being born in jail. The court said the welfare of the unborn child was a significant factor in granting bail.
The judge further observed that since the charge sheet had already been filed in the case, there was no further requirement to keep the accused in judicial custody.
Police had registered nine FIRs between March and April this year over allegations of attempted religious conversion and sexual harassment at a TCS-affiliated BPO facility in Nashik. Eight individuals have been named as accused in the case, including Nida Khan.
According to the allegations, Khan had allegedly provided a colleague with a burqa and religious literature and attempted to influence her religious beliefs by teaching her Namaz practices. Based on these allegations, police arrested Khan on May 7.
While granting bail, the court imposed strict conditions, directing the accused not to influence complainants or witnesses, not to visit the workplace linked to the case, and not to leave the country without permission
Meanwhile, the court rejected the bail plea of another accused, Danish Shaikh, who is facing more serious allegations in the same case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues to investigate the matter.
